H. Thompson Rich was one of the most prolific but least-known contributors to the legendary pul;p magazine Weird Tales. His stories, dating from 1923 to 1938, utilize his own background in the science of chemistry, especially in postulating the existence of animated plants that create a threat to the human race. Rich served in World War I, and several of his stories vividly use the war and its aftermath as a backdrop. For the magazine Ghost Stories he wrote two stories, one of which was a serialized novel, The House of the Fog, set in Los Angeles and involving the possibiity of a resurrected Mexican from centuries ago who seeks to oust the souls of all Americans in the state and replace them with the souls of dead Mexicans. H. Thompson Rich wrote vibrant tales of weird and supernatural fiction that continue to resonate a century after they were first set down.
