The odds ratio (OR) is a measure of association used in epidemiology and statistics to describe the strength of the relationship between an exposure and an outcome. It is defined as the ratio of the odds of the outcome in the exposed group to the odds of the outcome in the unexposed group. Odds and odds ratios are very frequently cited in the clinical literature. We know from lots of research that one of the most powerful ways to learn new concepts is by practicing. We have all heard the phrase Practice makes perfect and this is so very true when it comes to calculations. Even more powerful for learning is when the learner receives immediate feedback; and can see, how the problem is addressed. The aim of this workbook, therefore, is to provide students with the opportunity to practice calculations related to odds, odds ratios, and risk. The workbook covers the following topics: INTRODUCTION - CHAPTER 1 - RISK AND ODDS - CHAPTER 2 - CONVERTING ODDS TO RISK - CHAPTER 3 - CONVERTING RISK TO ODDS - CHAPTER 4 - CALCULATING LOG ODDS RATIOS - CHAPTER 5 – CONFIDENCE INTERVAL OF LOG ODDS RATIOS Each topic is introduced with an example question. A video tutorial demonstrates how the problem can be solved. There are then 20 questions for the student to practice the relevant problem-solving strategies and calculations. Each question page provides ample space for the student to carry out the calculations. Finally, the correct answer to each question is provided at the bottom of the page.
