PACKED TO LAST: The food inside our buckets is sealed in Mylar with oxygen absorbers—a method tested by food scientists (who also work with the US military's foods) to provide a 30-year shelf life. Less reliable methods (gamma sealed bucket lids or rubber gaskets alone) tend to degrade over time, allowing air and moisture penetration, food decay and weevil infestation. Our Mylar can be opened then quickly heat-sealed, providing access to your foods over the years without losing freshness. 1. ABOUT THE WHITE BEANS White beans are super nutrient-dense—high in Fiber, Protein, Iron, Calcium, Zinc, B Vitamins—and are naturally low in fat, which make them a great option for substituting fresh meat and dairy products. They are perfect for soups, stews, chili, salads, side dishes, dips and hummus, salsas and even veggie burgers. One half cup contains about 115 calories and 8 grams of fiber. Because they digest slowly, they satisfy hunger for a long time, making them a fantastic storage food and a great staple for the calorie-conscious! Beans will store 25 to 30 years if stored properly.
2. FOOD STORAGE RECOMMENDATION: Studies recommend 60 to 80 lbs of beans and legumes per adult/per year as part of a balanced subsistence diet. It’s good to have a variety of beans and legumes… pinto beans, black & white beans, split peas and lentils, among others (See our Wheatland Store for options). Our 4-gallon heavy-duty stackable square buckets are perfect for long-term storage... lined with re-sealable Mylar bags with large Oxy Pack inserts to stay delicious & pest-free for over 25 years!
3. MYLAR & OXY PACK CARE: The Mylar is heat-sealed (which makes the bag RE-SEALABLE). Because it’s re-sealable you can snip a corner off the bag, pour out what you’ll use in the next few months, then quickly* re-seal the Mylar & send your food back into long-term storage. *IMPORTANT: If your bag is left open over 20 minutes, or if you have opened and re-sealed multiple times you’ll want to toss in a new oxygen pack before re-sealing to ensure long-term freshness.
