Melody Ray lives in Western, Pennsylvania with her husband, Patrick and two daughters, Samantha and Juliana. Melody has her master s degree in social work. Her work experiences include drug and alcohol counseling, child welfare, and most recently, hospice/bereavement work. As a grief specialist at a child and family bereavement center called The Healing Patch, she has seen firsthand the impact substance overdoses are having on children. She sought out children s books to help children and their families cope with this unique loss, and to her surprise, such resources were limited. This prompted her to write this children s book. Melody s hope in writing this book is to assist families in communicating honestly about the loss as well as raising awareness regarding the grief needs of thousands of grieving children that have lost a loved one to substance overdose.
